I'm a Sydney-based author of the middle-grade novel Quark’s Academy and the picture book Something for Fleur. Both books are being released in Turkey and are available online in the USA and Canada. Both books were selected for the 2019 NSW Premier’s Reading Challenge. Quark’s Academy was also one of the few selected texts for the CBCA Readers Cup for 2019 and shortlisted for the 2019 Western Australian Young Reader’s Book Award.
Every Monday, I teach creative writing classes to young people via Westwords. I've been a speaker at several events, including the Sharjah Children’s Festival, CBCA events, as well as writing festivals, including Writers Unleashed.
Children’s books, in my opinion, are the best. They are the ones that shape us, give us hope, help us find our place in the world…and take us away to wonderful places.
The majority of my career has been in marketing communications, but I've had some other fun jobs along the way, including a Dinosaur Keeper at Taronga Zoo, Teen Activities Coordinator on cruise ships and a music festival organiser in London.
In addition to books, I love movies. My two absolute favourites are The Princess Bride and Calamity Jane.
Some of my favourite books include Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Matilda (Roald Dahl) Because of Winn-Dixie (Kate Di Camillo) and Harry Potter (JK Rowling). Other authors I love are Katherine Rundell and Karen Foxlee.
I love all things caramel!
I've done a lot of travel and have a long list of places to visit. Next on the list is Yellowstone National Park.
I love a wide-range of music. My playlists jump from music from the 60's to Eminem.
